Followup of #13922
This is about both fixing some issues with research stations and helping with mod compatibility so you don't have to override vanilla items as much as possible. Main one I can think of currently is https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3218219821

Rather than having to override every individual item intended to be researched with
researchmaterial
. I'm not sure there's a reason why the research station shouldnt be able to hold any items in it.I can think of a whole bunch of items that could benefit from researchmaterial tag (artifacts, curios, plants, all of creatureloot.xml....) but at this point it's better to allow any item in the research station
Adding extra slots to research station
The research station still drops items in case of an invalid combination since it has 2 input and 1 output slots; it's also an issue if you want to create more than 1 item from researching. I think more slots + rescaled UI is acceptable?
