I'm going to do a mockup soon of what I am envisioning for friendships and game goals; possibly later today, depending on deadlines. I'll post it on this thread once I do.

Here's an example of what I was thinking w.r.t. focusing more on ponies and friendships as the method for advancement:

Each pony can have their own boop rate, perhaps with diminishing returns after a long time (the more you click only one pony, the less they give you until you click a few others, provided you have at least X ponies). The booper can complete Achievements by doing things related to a particular episode or idea. Doing optimal booping should yield a lot more smiles than just waiting

This interface would still hit issues on mobile devices, given how restricted the viewport is. There still needs to be room for some sort of store in the interface - on a desktop, it can simply be to the right, but on a phone, you quickly run out of room. You might be able to implement this on a phone using collapsible sections, so the store could be collapsed or expanded by clicking on the header and so could the pony list, which would partially alleviate the issue. Displaying friends is the primary issue here, because you need to show which ponies have what friends in a very quick and easy to understand way: I propose making the selected pony larger and bumping them to the very top left corner of the grid, as well as putting them in the top area for booping. Then, all of their friends are displayed with normal thumbnails directly afterwards, followed by any ponies they are not friends with using darkened thumbnails.

In addition to this mockup you need to provide a detailed explanation of game progression and how upgrades work.
