Welcome to the coriolis-data wiki!
Some stuff in the config files are rediculously badly named. It's on the to-do to fix.
"id" - Random two letter unique ID. Good luck.
"baseShieldStrength" is not the value shown on the ship purchase screen.
Neither is "baseArmour". To find baseArmour take the armour value shown on purchase screen and take away the value*0.8
