Version 16.5.24 lights not working correctly when printing with X1C #50
Comments
Same for me |
I just set mine up for the first time and it was all working except for the finish leds being blue instead of green. I changed the pause from blue to green to see if I could start to track down what was wrong, and now I'm seeing the exact same behavior. I wonder if doing a complete re-flash to before I changed the color might restore a semi-functional state |
Yeah I had posted on Discord that since I finally upgraded from 26.3.24 to this latest 16.5.24, my BL-LED has been seriously unstable. I should have known better because I had no issues with the prior fw, but since I'd temporarily taken down my BL-LED for some work going on behind my X1C and had it offline for awhile, I figured while getting it back online I'd start clean with fresh firmware. Big mistake. With nothing else about my wireless setup or equipment location changing, now it can't maintain a steady wifi signal (and I have the Extended version with external antenna). It's about 20m from a Unifi U6 Pro access point. For comparison, I have a Tasmoto smart plug at floor level almost directly underneath the BL-LED, "buried" under a desk with densely packed drawers on either side, plugged into the back of a UPS, and yet it has better wireless connectivity and signal strength than the BL-LED on back of the X1C on top of the table with an external antenna and an unobstructed line of sight to the AP. Also the LED colors are all over the place as described here -- I'm seeing a lot of blue LEDs and then it will turn itself off and just become unresponsive until I power cycle it and go through the headache of getting it back on wifi, which takes time and several attempts usually. Before the firmware upgrade to this latest version, it had been rock solid for me since I got it in March or April. When power cycled it never failed to quickly reconnect. Now it's all but unusable. I first thought maybe I caused it with a case redesign. I had designed a custom BL-LED case months ago that had been working great, except the 8mm magnets I originally used were too small/weak and couldn't hold it to the back of the printer very well. So while I had it offline, I redesigned the case lid to contain larger 12mm magnets. This fixed the attachment issue, but after the wifi signal problem I thought maybe the magnetic field was too strong now and interfering with the notoriously weak wifi capability of the ESP32 (even though I have the external antenna version). But no, I completely removed the magnetic lid and have the BL-LED case just hanging in the air exposed at the back, and it still doesn't connect reliably. I've run across a number of complaints here and on Discord that this 16.5.24 version was less reliable than previous versions, and now I'm experiencing it myself. It's been 6 months since that release but with no updates or apparently serious attempts at improving it, which is discouraging because I truly loved the BL-LED while it was working reliably. As I posted in Discord I attempted to backflash to 26.3.24 using the web.esphome.io flasher to see if reliability was restored, but it did not work (error loop on boot). I haven't had a chance to try again but plan to do so this weekend. I really wish DD would give you the option of choosing a specific fw version to flash with his flashing utility, so that we don't have to play around with getting things just right with a generic flash utility. |
I tried reflashing 16.5.24 tonight using the web utility. It booted once, I tried to save my configuration, and it went into a boot loop. I'm going to have to pull it out again and reflash and see if I can recover it. |
I updated to Experimental 16.5.24 - love the increased number of options. However, I'm having issues using it with my X1C that I didn't have before the upgrade.
I have LED Behaviour set to "Replicate LED State" and have Error Detection turned on.
When I do a print, lights:
I have to switch to Maintenance Mode to get the lights to be on during the print. What's going wrong here?
