[BUG] Excessively long install time on Ubuntu #10

Describe the bug
when installing the .deb package, it hangs on 60% for about 10-20 minutes with no feedback in terminal, though it does eventually figure itself out.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. be on Ubuntu (bug seen on 24.04 LTS, 23.10, and 23.04)

Expected behavior
smooth, relatively quick install

Desktop (please complete the following information):

  • OS: Linux Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
