Version check fails with last 2 versions

Running MacOS 10.13.6, High Sierra. With last 2 versions 9/3/2025, latest 12/15/2025 2.1.15 getting the following with version check:

Does this only apply to the version check or does this mean that the latest version, which seems to be working, despite the version check failure, is also not working properly? Paying attention especially to the note that it was built for Monterey, Mac OS X 12.0. (Note: running Ventura OS X 13 on another partition, via OCLP, where version check does NOT fail.)

Go dropped support for High Sierra several releases ago, requiring macOS Big Sur (11) or later.

High Sierra is also unsupported by Apple, as it reached end of life 6 years ago.

You can try recompiling with CGO_ENABLED=0, but there are no guarantees that it will work.

As I said, this version appears to be working properly.* So, at least for this release, the 2.1.15, is it possible that only the version check is running this error? If not, best way to test?

In addition, can you say what is the last release that is compatible with HS?

*EDIT: to that end, seeing that I am connecting properly to the Quad9 servers selected. And all browsing happens problem free. Would that be sufficient to think that the 2.1.15 is working properly?

Unless otherwise reversed or contradicted by jedisct1, Maintainer, marking this as solved, answered, since, although I never heard back from jedisct1 with my necesssary followup questions, considering that my browsing continues as expected, and connections to Quad9 servers employed appear completely correct, it seems entirely reasonable that the only part of this release - not initially meant for High Sierra, 10.13.6 - not functioning properly is the version check.

In all other respects this release appears to be working properly on this OS.

After booting to Ventura on another partition, this version, not just the version check, is not working after all on High Sierra, 10.13.6. Had to revert to earlier release from 5/26/25. I appreciate all the hard work that does into maintaining these releases, but would have saved me a lot of trouble if jedisct1 had replied to my rather simple followup questions.

The OS is no longer supported by the vendor or the compiler, and none of the dependencies are tested on it anymore. I can’t install this OS on any machine, and there are no CI environments that offer it any more. It's impossible to test.
So, as I wrote before, it’s impossible to guarantee anything, you’re on your own. That said, as mentioned in the response, you can still try the proposed workaround.
