Logging some options in case the problem re-occurs:

free-disk-space action (slow, but promising)
runs-on runners (https://runs-on.com, https://github.com/runs-on/runs-on) (cheap, but not free)
other self-hostes runners (good tutorial at https://saturncloud.io/blog/github-action-ecr-optimizing-disk-space/)
docker-slim-github action (requires dockerisation)
running under enterprise account (DSL)

If we come up with our own clean-up paths we could store them in a dedicated YAML file (cf. actions/runner-images#10386 (comment)).

Also, 9e1d40f contains some removals that don't apply to our task.
