Background

Windows Community Toolkit 8.2 is slated to release soon.

Problem

We aren't tracking the creation or refinement of release notes for consumers for this version.

We need a comprehensive set of release notes for consumers of this new packages.

Solution

This ticket facilitates planning the creation and refinement of release notes for the stable 8.2 release.

This should include any code changes since our last public 8.1 release regarded as:

  • New
  • Refactors
  • Fixes
  • Deprecated
  • Superseded/obsolete
  • Breaking (with migration notes)

Pulling in details added by @michael-hawker in #628:

I think the main highlights for this release are:

  • WASDK 1.6 + NAOT support (with whatever release notes, we're waiting on GridSplitter C#/WinRT investigation for instance)
  • UWP for .NET 9 support
  • Uno 5.? support
  • Update to Behaviors 3.0 (unified namespaces)

(Also fix for 19041 TFM change in 8.1 that was a problem, now fixed from Win2D fix)

Then new features are the SwitchConverter/SwitchPresenter updates.

Then notable bug fixes from the release notes/community contributions?

Call out other community contributors @ajpinedam, @HotCakeX

This can be cleaned up and organized a bit but is a great start and may work as-is if time is short.

@michael-hawker Since you've expressed interest in helping us compile release and migration notes, I've assigned you to this ticket.

I'm still also assigned and plan to help with general cleanup and final touches, making sure it's readable and actionable for consumers.
