just change the defalt app mode in custom color, do not change the windows mode.

Happen to have a same need as yours. Here is a workaround I found:

Edit the file C:\Users\{Your User Name}\AppData\Roaming\AutoDarkMode\config.yaml
Set "SystemSwitch -> Enabled" as "false"
Toggle the theme.
