This is a fork of the MediaProbe tool that's at https://github.com/IUMDPI/MediaProbe.git
The repo is pretty stable and since it requires several system dependencies that are built in to amp_python, it's easier to modify the code to call that binary than it is to install the dependencies on the host system.
Plus, I wrote it, so I can do what I want with it :P
This will process a file and create either a data structure (if called as a library) or a JSON blob (when called from the command line) of information about a given file.
This effectively combines ffprobe, imagemagic identify, file, and pdfinfo. Other formats can easily be added. If the external tools are not available, only basic information will be created.
It isn't finished, but it's a good start.
