Changing authentication is cumbersome and lacks feedback

The basic concept for changing the authentication to advanced should be simple, but it can be a bit cumbersome for first-time users due to a lack of feedback if done out-of-order.

Advanced authentication commands lack feedback that they should only be used when advanced auth is enabled. Some better documentation should also aid the process a bit to prevent zombie authentication hell.
