Styling issues (needs more control?)

I'd wish the border around the selected item was the same as the background. The segment tag only seems to work well if the background color is the same as the tint :/

Like so (quick photoshop work):

There seems to be a weird pointy edge in the corner when the item is selected. It doesn't have a pointy edge on the right side (unselected item)
