Is it possible to get the mentioned items that are part of the textarea or do you need to manually parse the value and find the items in there.

I didn't find it in the documentation. I could PR if you are busy and are willing to merge it after.

Sounds like the most reasonable way, especially if the mentions are manually typed in full by the user.
